Lionel Messi, the star footballer of Argentina, has started the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar on a strong note in terms of scoring goals. Messi scored his first goal of the tournament in the opening match for Argentina against Saudi Arabia. The goal came courtesy of a penalty kick in the game’s first ten minutes.
35-year-old Messi scored his first goal in the 13th minute of his World Cup debut in Germany in 2006 against Serbia.
Argentina position as favourites in ongoing world cup is now in doubt after loosing their opening game to Saudi Arabia.
Argentina was one of the favourites to win the tournament and they looked on course to do so with a comfortable lead over Saudi Arabia. However, they fretted over missed chances and fine defensive play form Saudi Arabia.
The result means that Argentina has lost its first game of the tournament while Saudi Arabia have 3 point on the board.
The loss will be a huge blow for Lionel Messi and his teammates as they need to win all of their remaining matches to qualify for knockout stage of the tournament.
